Remember: Early Detection Saves Lives!

Although oral cancers represent a very small percentage of cancers, they tend to be rather aggressive. A prognosis is excellent if detected and treated early. All our dental office patients undergo a thorough oral cancer screening.

If a suspicious lesion is detected, one of three courses of action is taken:

1. Wait 10 -14 days and see if the lesion still exists.

2.  Do a brush biopsy of the area so that the cells can be examined under a microscope.

3. Remove the lesion so that it can be examined in its entirety.

The appearance of the lesion will determine which course of action will be taken.

In any case, the key is early detection and early intervention. Therefore, regular dental visits are essential.
